The Elko Police Officers Protective Association recently voted to leave PORAN and affiliate with COPS of Nevada for legal defense and labor representation. The affiliation comes amidst an organizing campaign in Nevada by COPS that is beginning to take the state storm.

COPS of Nevada President Bill Falkner said, "We're extremely excited about Elko's affiliation with the COPS of Nevada. In such a short period of time, we're showing that COPS has the most comprehensive legal defense and labor representation in the state of Nevada. We look forward to serving the Elko Police Officers."

Incorporated March 14, 1917, Elko Police Department now has 42 employees, 35 of whom are sworn officers. In addition to patrol and detectives, officers are assigned to the Combined Narcotics Task Force, Juvenile Task Force, K-9 Unit, Bicycle Patrol Unit and a Special Response Team. Their Police Athletic League has grown from 100 to 1800 children presently involved in basketball and volleyball programs.
